Embroidering Dreams: A Year-End Reflection

projects / Sunday, December 31st, 2023

Having not written a blog post for quite some time, I now find myself on the last day of 2023, reflecting on the incredible embroidery journey that has unfolded over the past year. Numerous projects have filled my days, and each stitch tells a story. However, being a part of the embroidery team who created special pieces for the Coronation of HM King Charles III is an experience that I feel humbly honoured.

While watching the BBC Documentary ‘King Charles III: The Coronation Year’ on Boxing day, I thought it was a lovely way to look back 2023. I clearly remember the day the King and the Queen came to visit us at the Royal School of Needlework Embroidery Studio. When their majesties asked me some questions, I tried to respond but I was so nervous that my mind went blank unfortunately. Despite all that, seeing my talented colleagues featured in the documentary was a blessing. Although I wasn’t on camera, I spotted my embroidery scissors and mellor on the edge of the huge slate frame for the Anointing Screen. Here’s a photo of my telly. This will be a fond memory.

As the year draws to a close and the arrival of the year 2024 imminent, I’m contemplating a New Year’s resolution. As a professional embroidery artist, my aim is to bring more designs to life and infuse each piece with my passion. I aspire to organize my time better, dedicating more hours to my artistic pursuits.

Many thanks to those who take the time to read my blog post, even though I don’t know how many people would read this. Your support is genuinely appreciated.

Wishing you a happy and peaceful New Year!
