Visit to Parham House and Gardens

Places / Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

On a fine day of the bank holiday weekend, I went to Parham House and Gardens in West Sussex. My tutors/mentors Owen Davies and Margaret Dier told me that I could see a fine needlework collection in this stunning Elizabethan House.

Feeling so relaxed and refreshed in the beautiful gardens, I was very excited to go into the house and see the fabulous embroidery pieces. I spent a long time looking at some 17th century stumpwork, 18th century crewel work and lots of needlework pictures worked in tent stitch. It was stunning to see the interior and exterior of the bed in the Great Chamber, but what I enjoyed most was the White Room off the Long Gallery.

I was allowed to take photos inside the house (no flash photography though), but I am not sure if I am allowed to post the needlework photos here. So I’ll just show you what I bought there – a booklet on Needlework and Tapestry at Parham Park (£3) and a couple of postcards.

It was a great day out. I think I will go back there again with my fellow embroiderers.
