Throwback Thursday. This is one of my favourite pieces. I wanted to try stumpwork technique to recreate Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairy.
Actually, the whole piece looks like an opened book.
When I was mounting this piece, the Duchess of Cambridge (Yes! It’s Catherine!) came to visit us at Royal School of Needlework. Before we had a good conversation, she said, ‘Oh it’s 3D!’ and nearly touched the fairy. Of course she knew that you’re not supposed to touch the embroidery artwork…
